Lord Genmu - HYPER-HEAVEN
Dome of Doom
March 29, 2024
Digital EP
In March of 2023, Wylie Cable‘s label Dome of Doom Records released the debut album Sigils from the then-unknown artist Lord Genmu, who's real name is Marc Vela. Born & raised in Austin, Texas, Lord Genmu discovered electronic music back in high school when his friend played the remix of Major Lazer’s “Original Don” by Flosstradamus, followed by “Wild for the Night” with Skrillex & A$ap Rocky, “then things sorta just snowballed from there” Marc says, he then started attending music festivals & making his own beats. Lord Genmu credits most of his music taste to the Porter Robinson Essential Mix because the selection put him onto a multitude of artists he had not heard of before, which to this day he still listens to including Bleep Bloop, G Jones, Rustie, & AWE.
Since 'Sigils' release, Lord Genmu has played sold out tour dates with G Jones at The Caverns, The Ogden Theatre, performed at Lightning in A Bottle music festival and is currently set to perform at Austin Music Week for an official DEF global showcase alongside artists like Kursa, Mr. Carmack, Mija and The Caracal Project as well as The Untz Festival in May.
HYPER-HEAVEN is the follow up EP to Lord Genmu’s label debut 'Sigils'. It represents a step forward in the sonic evolution of the artist with two solo tracks that are both highly requested ID's from Lord Genmus fans, “Wing Zero" and "HYPER-HEAVEN" The EP also features an extremely rare collaboration with electronic music mainstay Bleep Bloop titled “CGS”
It is an excellent finale to the EP tracklist and a truly bombastic work of electronic production between one of the original innovators of the genre and one of the newest breakout artists in the bass scene.
“I would say that with HYPER-HEAVEN EP the overall theme was how extreme I could get with electronic music, whether it be the insane moments of distortion in ‘HYPER-HEAVEN’ and ‘Wing Zero’ or even just a guy screaming over a bassline like in ‘CGS’ all of these moments amalgamated to me just having fun with experimenting, and in the end creating a very “banger” oriented and upbeat project. Even the name HYPER-HEAVEN conveys the extravagant theme I was aiming for. I mostly used ableton stock plugins with the exception of the analog heat mk 2 in “Wing Zero” for some of the sound design. The record was finished over the course of the year at my home in Austin Texas. The track ‘CGS’ was made at Bleep Bloop’s studio in LA.
For the mixing and mastering I would get some feedback from Bleep Bloop on whether or not things were sounding correct because to me he’s one of the best people to ask about this style of music, but the mastering process was all done by Kursa. The influences on this record I’d say that ‘Wing Zero’ was more inspired by the 2015-2018 era of bass music while ‘HYPER-HEAVEN’ pushes to a newer, more refined / simplistic / trap adjacent sound that I’m starting to lean into a bit more, all while keeping the entire project pretty cohesive. I have two shows with Juelz for his first headline which is going to be so much fun. I’m making my New York debut with G Jones in April. It's always so dope playing shows with him, and we are playing The Untz Festival together this summer! I’m so thankful for it all. It’s honestly unreal. I’m also working on a bunch of collabs with friends that I don’t wait to spoil. But yes things are happening.” -Lord Genmu
